Last June, Dramblys, the Spanish partner of the project, organized a social café for carers and care professionals. The meeting took place in a close and relaxed atmosphere with the aroma of coffee and toast.
Topics such as the worries of the carer, and the constant doubt as to whether they are doing it correctly, whether it is a job or their role within the family, were discussed. The intrinsic loneliness of this uncertainty was also highlighted, as well as the emotional exhaustion involved in maintaining this situation and the importance of mental health when caring for others. The incalculable value of the support network when caring for others as a profession or raising one’s children was highlighted. Those who attended the social café organized by Dramblys agreed that having a safe environment of trusted people to share experiences and seek advice is also essential for healthier caregiving.
The debate on personal wellbeing as the backbone of stability in the workplace was the epicenter of conversations full of empathy, and the desire to learn and to accompany.
In this case, the professionals in the sector, who were involved in social work and care for the elderly, expressed their fears, experiences, and concerns. The young mothers were able to feel supported, validated, and valued.
